Eyes On The Road!

Eyes On The Road!

A few weeks ago, my husband and I were on our way to the grocery store to stock up on some nutritious foods. We’ve both been doing so well eating healthier and cutting back on sugar so we were pumped up. Sometimes, I completely binge on junk food and other times, I can go weeks without it. I’ve allowed it to become a real struggle, but I’m continuously making progress. Anyhow, as we were driving down the road, I spotted some teenagers selling girl scout cookies in a yard. They had a fairly large tent set up and under the tent was a table stocked with colorful boxes. Oh, be still my heart. James, pull over now! Now! My flesh screamed silently. One of the young ladies stood facing the road holding a bright neon sign that said GIRL SCOUT COOKIES on it. It felt as if we drove by in slow motion, but we continued on without stopping.

Almost immediately, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart and I was reminded of how Satan operates. Often times, we find ourselves on the right road in life, getting closer to our destination by the minute. But out of nowhere, there’s a distraction. There’s something to take our focus off of God and the goal He set before us. Whether or not people believe it, there are always unseen forces at work. I’m not saying the girls were evil (hehe) – just using it as an analogy for how things work in the spirit realm. The unseen forces are constantly fighting for our attention, begging to influence us and cause us to “pull over” when we know we shouldn’t. The distractions are always appealing and usually speak directly to our individual weaknesses. Before you know it, you’ve stopped and the distance between point A and point B is further than you’ve ever intended it to be.

Before you know it, you buy that candy in the checkout line – the candy that is so alluring due to the hidden bright lights above it. Before you know it, you pick that heroine needle back up. Before you know it, you’re flirting with that co-worker again and you’re married. Whatever your particular weakness is, has sucked you back in once again. Like a fish who can’t resist a lure, you find yourself hooked, helpless and vulnerable.

But God has a beautiful plan for all of our lives. His desire is to satisfy our hearts and help us successfully walk in the calling He has specifically set aside for each one of us. He wants us to stay the course and follow Him no matter how difficult it may become at times.

What are some of the “signs” in your life that hold you back or distract you from your goals? What signs make you slow down and consider pulling over? Think about it and join in this prayer with me.

Lord, we love You so much. Thank You for opening our eyes to what is really happening in the world around us. Please give us the strength to overcome our struggles. Help us recognize which “signs” are negative and which are positive. Help us not be deceived into taking detours when we clearly know the direction You want us to go in. Remind us daily of the importance in focusing on Your will and drowning out all distractions. Remind us that we are running this race to win, like Paul said. We need you every moment of every day. Your will be done. In Jesus name, amen.

Now go run that race, friends!

Beautiful! So, so true! For me it was my nutrition too! I had so many ailments! Borderline high blood pressure, diverticulitis, gluten intolerance, over weight, and chronic arthritis! One would think those alone would have made me shape up! God spoke to me several times about nutrition and getting healthy. I pushed past it for a year! I delayed doing anything about it! Then finally I just couldn’t ignore it anymore! Fast forward two months I am down 27 pounds, blood pressure is normal and I take only vitamins. I more medicine !! I’m beginning an exercise program and have 12 more pounds to lose! I’m so thankful for the change, I feel great physically and emotionally! I feel so much better knowing I’m doing what He wants me to do! I heard the sermon this morning about the man at the pool of Bethesda and God said…that was you as I listened, with conviction! I was so sick and I wanted someone to fix me and I had no willingness to fix myself! We know Jesus healed the man, but first He did have the conversation…do you not want to be well?? I know He was asking me the same…but I also know He knew, I knew what to do and He was waiting on me to obey Him and to help myself. He is to my new life of health! Thank you, Jesus!
